Continuing the Evolution of Base31
As Base31 continues to evolve, we remain focused on strengthening the places where our community gathers. In the coming weeks, the northwest quadrant of the District will undergo a transformation—shaping it into a more flexible, cohesive, and welcoming part of the site.
These updates support our long-term vision for Base31: a vibrant, year-round destination for cultural programming, live performance, and everyday community life. Rooted in history and designed for what’s next, this next phase creates new opportunities for visitors, future residents, and those looking to become part of the Base31 community.
Across the north side of Base31, we are improving pedestrian access and flow to better connect key destinations, including the Sensory Garden, The HUB Child and Family Centre, Wildlings Play Café, The Commissary, and nearby gathering spaces. Enhancements to the outdoor concert and event area connected to The Commissary will further support both live performance and daily community use.
As part of creating a more intuitive and connected experience, new wayfinding elements will be introduced across the site. This includes major entrance signage along County Road 22 and new visitor kiosks designed to help orient guests and share the broader vision of Base31—inviting exploration of both what exists today and what continues to take shape.
These improvements build on recent site-wide enhancements and will be supported by refreshed landscaping and upgraded pedestrian routes. Together, they will open up space for movement, gathering, and future programming, while ensuring the site remains safe, accessible, and welcoming.
This work is part of a broader evolution across the north end of Base31. Over the past year, we have introduced new family-focused destinations at The HUB Child & Family Centre and Wildlings Play Café, revitalized the Sensory Garden and Aviators Garden, expanded use of the Moir House, built the Fairgrounds Pickleball Courts, and improved the Kingsley Parking Lot.
Together, these changes are shaping a more vibrant, connected, and family-friendly area—one that continues to grow with the community.
A New Chapter: Introducing Base Living
As Base31 continues to grow, this next phase also marks the introduction of Base Living — a residential community that will bring new opportunities to live on-site, connected to the culture, landscape, and daily life of the District.
Grounded by the same principles that guide Base31, Base Living is designed to support a sense of belonging — where people can live within walking distance of gathering spaces, cultural programming, and shared experiences that define the site.
To help bring this vision to life, the newly built Discovery Centre will offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the future of Base31 and Base Living. It will serve as a place to explore the broader evolution of the site, understand what’s coming next, and experience how living, culture, and community come together here.
Together, these additions represent an important step in the continued evolution of Base31 — expanding from a place to visit into a place to stay, return to, and call home.
The renewed spaces will encourage exploration, spark curiosity, and create new ways for residents and visitors to connect with both the history and the evolving future of Base31.
Because as Base31 grows, it continues to bring together what matters most — place, community, and culture.
