Art, History and a Little Discovery: Explore the B31 District Art Walk

Prince Edward County has long been a destination for artists, makers and creative thinkers. At B31 District, we’re big believers that art belongs everywhere, not just inside a gallery.

That’s the idea behind the B31 District Art Walk, created in collaboration with Oeno Gallery. Free to explore, the outdoor exhibition winds through the historic grounds of Base31, bringing contemporary Canadian sculpture into unexpected corners of the District. With 10 works from Base31’s permanent collection and pieces on loan from Oeno Gallery, there’s plenty to discover along the way.

And this isn’t your typical gallery experience. You might come across Kaleidoscope by Eric Tardif and discover that, yes, it actually works. You’ll find Mondo Forma’s Pollinator Hotel and Bee Happy in the Aviators Garden, where art and the natural landscape come together. Other works, including pieces by Viktor Mitic, Floyd Elzinga, Cynthia McQuillan and Danielle Reddick, are tucked throughout the site, giving you another reason to slow down and look around.

The Art Walk is also one more way to experience the history and character of B31 District. Set among heritage buildings, open green spaces and gathering places, the sculptures become part of the landscape rather than simply something you stop to look at.

So, how do you make a day of it? Start with a stroll through the Art Walk, grab something to eat at The Commissary, explore the site, and then make your way to the Drill Hall RBC Stage for a night of live music.
