Details

From the stages that launched comedy icons like John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Martin Short, and so many more comes The Best of the Second City! This high-energy show blends our signature improv comedy with hilarious songs, classic characters and timeless sketches – handpicked from our rich comedy archive, written by the world’s funniest minds, and reimagined by today’s boldest comedic voices. Step into the legacy that’s been redefining comedy for over 50 years.

It all started with children’s games. Rooted in the groundbreaking improvisational games of Viola Spolin, The Second City opened its doors on a snowy Chicago night in December of 1959, and a comedy revolution began. Co-founded by Bernie Sahlins, Howard Alk, and Spolin’s son Paull Sills, the small cabaret theater grew to become the most influential and prolific comedy empire in the world, developing an entirely unique way of creating art and fostering generation after generation of superstars.

About the Venue

The Drill Hall is one of Base31's most iconic spaces, known for its soaring ceilings, industrial character, and powerful acoustics. Once part of a historic training site, it now hosts concerts that feel both intimate and electric. The room fills with energy the moment the music starts, creating a live experience that stays with you long after the night ends.

Before the show, be sure to explore the Drill Hall Patio, where a rotating lineup of local food vendors serves up delicious eats throughout the evening. Whether you're grabbing dinner before the music starts or a late-night snack between sets, it's the perfect way to complete your concert experience. Check out the food vendors and patio offerings here.
